Firm

Mary McKee Design is a small residential architecture firm. We pride ourselves on designing spaces for the specific needs of our clients.

After several years at Jeremiah Eck, Architects (now Eck I MacNeely Architects, inc), Mary started her own architecture practice, based in Newton, Massachusetts. While most of the firm’s projects are in the Boston area, Mary has also designed houses in Maine, New Hampshire, Connecticut and in Georgian Bay, Ontario. The firm’s projects include renovations, additions and new construction. In addition to architectural services, we offer interior design services.

Architectural Design Process

Zoning involves all of the applicable zoning requirements. We verify building set backs and any other requirements that may effect the footprint of your house. If necessary, we attend any necessary meeting with the Zoning Board or Building Department.

Documentation involves taking measurements and photographs of the existing house. Once all of the measurements have been taken, we then draw the existing floor plans and existing elevations.

Design Drawings set the scheme; typically, there are a number of conceptual alternative schemes during this phase. During this phase we will meet and discuss the proposed design options. We then refine and develop the design drawings.

Construction Documents specify exact material choices, dimensions, schedules (window and doors, plumbing, lighting & electrical and finishes) and other specifications necessary for construction. Once you select a contractor, this set of drawings also serves as the basis of the contract between you and your contractor.

Construction Observation entails periodic site visits during construction to help insure both the quality and quantity of construction through specific compliance to the drawings and written specifications.
